  • I’m familiar with Mitsubishi Electric but wasn’t aware that you offered uninterruptible power supplies. Is this a new product line for Mitsubishi Electric? 

Mitsubishi Electric has been manufacturing precision-engineered, highly reliable uninterruptible power supplies since 1964 and providing those products to American facilities with critical power requirements since 1985.  

  • What makes a Mitsubishi Electric UPS different/better?

Mitsubishi Electric is the only major brand of uninterruptible power supplies that designs and manufactures its own insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) - the power electronics that are the essential components to the “U” in “UPS”.   • Mitsubishi Electric’s reputation in electronics is stellar but I need to ensure that my critical power equipment supplier provides strong domestic support. Is your division located in the US?

Yes, we are a division of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. located in Warrendale, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Our divisional operations include Project and Application Engineering, Design Engineering, Service, Technical Support, Manufacturing and Warehousing, Quality, as well as Sales and Marketing.  

  • In addition to uninterruptible power supplies what other critical power products does Mitsubishi Electric offer?

We offer batteries, maintenance bypasses, critical load cabinets, paralleling cabinets, flywheels as well as a full range of Services.

  • When we purchase uninterruptible power supplies, we typically will need fast deployment. I’m concerned about how long shipments of any components from Japan might take. What are your typical lead times?

Our facilities in Warrendale include 76,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space with a robust inventory of UPS and parts, switch-gear, batteries. This enables us to offer next day shipments of some parts with lead times in the range of 2 to 4 weeks for smaller UPS and 4 to 6 weeks for larger standard product orders.

  • Do you offer Engineering Services to ensure that our needs will be met?

Yes our Warrendale office is staffed with project and application engineers as well electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to support the proposal, design, implementation, and support of critical power solutions that best meet your requirements.

  • Can I see a demonstration or test of the Mitsubishi Electric UPSs I am considering or have purchased?

  • What is the range of the Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply product line?

From 6kVA to 2100kVA.

  • What voltages are Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies available in?

3 Phase UPS: 480VAC and 120/208VAC and the Single Phase UPS: 120/208VAC and 120/240VAC

  • How much floor space do Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies take up and what do they weigh? 

Size and weight vary by model but through the use of three level IGBT topology, being transformerless, or using cutting edge SiC technology Mitsubishi is able to offer UPS with smaller footprints and weights than other traditional topology UPS maximizing their power density.  FDPS are found in the specifications section on the product model pages as well as the specifications section on our Literature page

  • What clearances do Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies need?

Typical range of 16’ to 24’ of clearance above the unit for ventilation and 32’ to 40’ in front of the unit for maintenance.  Drawings for individual models can be found under the drawing section on the product model page as well as the drawings section of our Literature page 

  • What is the operating temperature range of Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies?

  • How loud are Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies.

  • What fault ratings do Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies have?  

Fault rating of the UPS is determined by upstream gear. Some models are available with optional 65kAIC or 100kAIC bypass fuses.

  • What type are your Uninterruptible Power Supplies (i.e. double conversion, delta conversion)?

All Mitsubishi UPS modules use double conversion architecture.

  • Can a Mitsubishi UPS notify me of a change in its status?

Yes, a Mitsubishi Electric UPS with a Netcom II or LookUPS can notify you by e-mail utilizing your facilities IP network.

  • What is the difference between a NETCOM and a MUCM?

A NETCOM is a communication device uses SNMP over Ethernet. The MUCM uses Modbus RTU over serial.

  • What types of batteries can be used with Mitsubishi Electric uninterruptible power supplies?

The Mitsubishi UPS can use multiple types of DC sources including sealed VRLA, VLA, NiCad, Super Capacitors, Flywheels and Lithium Ion.

  • Can a Mitsubishi Electric UPS be used with a Flywheel?

Yes, the 9900Aegis, 9900B, 9950, SUMMIT ®  Series UPS and 9900C series all can use flywheels.

  • Which Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply is the best for my application?

UPS Operation

  • Can Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies be installed outside?

All Mitsubishi UPS modules are designed with NEMA 1 enclosures which are not meant for outdoor installation. They can be installed in  outdoor rated containers

  • Can Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies operate in an industrial environment?

Mitsubishi UPS are designed to operate in a clean, conditioned, low dust environment.

  • How do I put a Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply in static or maintenance bypass?

  • What is the over load capacity of a Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply without going to bypass?

  •  What is a recommended maximum capacity I can load a Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply up till without risking the load?

All Mitsubishi UPS are designed to operate continuously at their fully rated load.

  •  How long will my Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply system run on battery?

The run-time from the battery supply for the UPS can vary depending on the UPS load, the age of the batteries and state of charge, as well as other site characteristics. For an estimated run-time of your battery or for an onsite battery examination, please Contact Us

  • What are the recommended generator sizes for Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies?

The Mitsubishi UPS operates with a near unit input power factor, this allows for a 1:1 generator sizing. Note: Most generators are not recommended to operate above 80% capacity. Please consult a generator manufacture before sizing your generator.

  • What Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies can be paralleled and how many?

The 9900Aegis can be paralleled up to 4 modules. The 9900CX can be paralleled up to 6 modules. The 9900B, 9950, SUMMIT® Series UPS, and 9900C can be paralleled up to 8 modules.

  •  What does it take to parallel a Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply?

In order to parallel Mitsubishi UPS modules, a parallel control board needs to be added to each UPS module. They can then be paralleled together through a Critical Load Cabinet (CLC). For assistance in paralleling UPS modules Contact Us

  •  Who do I contact in case of emergency?

  • When calling Tech Support, what information will be needed?

UPS model, KVA, Serial Number and any other additional information that is relevant to the problem.

  • How do I obtain a manual?  

Manuals, Specifications, Brochures, and Drawings can all be found on our Literature page or on the specific UPS model pages

  • How can I tell if my software is current?

If you are a contract customer during every service contract visit, your Mitsubishi Electric Service Technicians will verify that your UPS is running on the most current software version. If you are not a contract customer you can call Technical Support at 1-800-887-7830 or Contact Us

  • Are the hot swappable modules in Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supplies easy for a customer to replace on their own?

Yes but it’s recommended to call Tech Support 1-800-887-7830 while doing this.

  • What Services do you offer?

  •  How often does a Mitsubishi Electric UPS need a preventative maintenance? 

For proper operation semi-annual or annual maintenance is typically recommended. However, monthly or quarterly schedules may be recommended depending on the operating environment or your standardized operational procedures.

  • I want to get the most out of my investment.  How do I setup a maintenance schedule for my Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply?

Specific site requirements can vary – the best way is to consult with one of our Service Coordinators by calling 1-800-887-7830 and selecting Option 1. Or Contact Us.

  • Will there be any downtime when preventative maintenance is being performed on my Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply? 

In most cases there won’t be but the UPS will likely be on utility power while the maintenance is in progress.  If there is an external maintenance bypass with your system we can place your critical load on generator or utility power during our annual PM visit.  Additionally, we can offer after hours service in a maintenance contract for a modest upcharge if needed.

  • What is the life expectancy of a Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply system? 

For systems that are properly maintained an operating life of 15-20 years is typical for a Mitsubishi Electric UPS.

  • Do you stock maintenance and repair parts for my Mitsubishi Electric Uninterruptible Power Supply?

  • What does a typical life cycle part replacement schedule look like? (i.e., capacitors, fans, batteries) 

A UPS replacement schedule can slightly vary depending on your specific UPS model. For newer UPS models, capacitors are due for replacement after the unit has been operating for 10-15 years, 5 years for fans. Sealed batteries should be budgeted at year 3 with replacement typically by year 5.

  • I have a Mitsubishi Electric UPS that is approaching 10 years of operation. I have been following the recommended lifecycle part replacement schedule.  What other spare replacement parts should I consider purchasing and keeping on hand? 

Consult with your Field Service Technician but parts that you may wish to consider include: Capacitors, Control Relays, Contactors, Printed Circuit Boards, Control Power Supply, LCD Display, Fuses, and Thermal Relays. Or feel free to Contact Us for a quote

  • How long are parts available for a Mitsubishi Electric UPS? 

Typically parts will be available 7-10 years after product manufacturing has been discontinued.

  • Does Mitsubishi Electric have UPS Service Technicians across the United States?

Yes. A First Responder class empowers your staff to confidently read the Human Machine Interface screen and understand the information of the daily activity of the UPS under normal and adverse conditions. This is not a replacement for a Preventative Maintenance Plan, if you'd like a quote for First Responder training or for a PM Plan please Contact Us

  • How long does First responder training take and what is covered? 

The four hour class covers basic theory of operation, a virtual tour inside the UPS, review of user menus, review of a power schematic, and hands-on time when possible at your site. Each participant receives a hard copy manual.

  •  Where can I have my First Responder staff trained? 

Training is available at our Warrendale, PA and Cypress, CA training facilities as well as at your location.
