The data center responsible for hosting many of the mission critical services in our nation's capital suffered "catastrophic communications failure" when a competitor UPS was being repaired and the center was running on a backup generator.

JULY 2014

The power outage at the Unified Communications Center impacted a multitude of key emergency communication organizations that rely on a dedicated power supply to keep their operations up and running at all times.

The loss of power left Washington, DC in a perilous state, with police radios going silent for more than 5 minutes and the 911 system experiencing potentially life-threatening, extended delays in wait times. Even the nation's Homeland Security and Emergency Management offices were put at risk, as their operations are hosted by servers in the Unified Communications Center.

As this was the second incident since the site opened that has resulted in a failure, the customer identified the need to replace the underperforming equipment responsible for the outage.

A Mitsubishi Electric sales representative in the Washington, DC area galloped in to the rescue and secured an order for two 9900B 500 kVA units and maintenance bypasses, which were on their way to the customer in less than 24 hours.
